Privacy notice

Last updated: 20 October 2026

This notice explains what personal information Chemistry Revision collects when you use chemistryrevision.co.uk, why we collect it, who we share it with and the choices you have. We have tried to keep it short and in plain English.

Who we are

Chemistry Revision is the trading name of Syed Rahil, a sole trader, of 34 Lon Celynnen, Rhyl, LL18 4LZ, United Kingdom. Chemistry Revision runs this website, the companion site to the A Level Chemistry in 3 Months revision books. We decide how your information is used, which makes us the data controller under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

You can contact us about anything in this notice at support@chemistryrevision.co.uk.

What we collect

  • Your account: your first and last name, email address, username, password (stored in scrambled form, so we cannot read it) and your exam board.
  • Where you came from: if you reach us by scanning a QR code in one of the books, we note which chapter’s code you scanned. This tells us which chapters readers find most useful.
  • Purchases: which plan you bought, when, the price and any discount code. Card payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
  • Your study progress: as Premium features become available, we store your study schedule, quiz and recall-card answers, review dates and mock paper scores, so the site can tell you what to revise next.
  • Messages: anything you send us by email.
  • Technical information: your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, recorded by our web host for security and to keep the site running.

We do not ask for sensitive information such as health details, and we do not use advertising trackers.

Why we use it, and our lawful basis

  • To provide the service you signed up for (contract): creating your account, showing material for your exam board, taking payment, giving Premium access, sending your eBooks, and sending service emails such as receipts, password resets and the review reminders that are part of your study plan.
  • To keep the site secure and improve it (legitimate interests): preventing fraud and misuse, fixing problems, and understanding which chapters and features are used most.
  • To send you news and offers (consent): only if you have agreed. Every such email has an unsubscribe link, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
  • To meet legal obligations: for example keeping records of payments for tax purposes.

Parents and guardians

The site is for A Level students and the adults who support them. If you are under 16, please ask a parent or guardian to help you create your account. A parent or guardian can buy Premium for a student. Where we offer a parent view of a student’s progress, we will only share progress with a parent or guardian the student has agreed to link.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your information. We share it only with companies that help us run the site, and only as much as they need:

  • Hostinger, which hosts the website and our email.
  • Stripe, which processes card payments. Stripe’s own privacy notice is at stripe.com/gb/privacy.

We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of others.

Information sent outside the UK

Some of these providers may process information outside the UK. Where they do, they use safeguards approved under UK law, such as the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

How long we keep it

  • Account and progress information: while your account is open. If you do not log in for two years, we will delete your account after warning you by email.
  • Payment records: six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, as HMRC requires.
  • Emails you send us: up to two years.
  • Server logs: up to 90 days.

You can ask us to close your account and delete your information at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete your information;
  • ask us to limit how we use it, or object to our using it;
  • receive your information in a format you can take elsewhere;
  • withdraw consent to marketing emails at any time.

To use any of these rights, email support@chemistryrevision.co.uk. We will reply within one month. There is normally no charge.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Security

The site uses an encrypted connection (HTTPS), passwords are stored in scrambled form, and access to member information is limited to what is needed to run the service.

Cookies

Our cookie policy explains the small files the site stores on your device.
